Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 01 - Airport - Colombo - Tintagel Colombo. 

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours

Welcome to Sri Lanka.
Upon arrival at the Colombo International Airport, you will be met & greeted with fresh Orchid garlands by our Spanish speaking guide. We will travel to Colombo where you will check in to the Tintagel Hotel.
Tintagel Colombo is a unique and private luxury hotel, situated in the heart of Colombo’s most elite neighbourhood. Offering 10 individually designed suites with all modern amenities and services; Tintagel Colombo is housed in a stunning heritage structure of national importance that was previously home to three of Sri Lanka’s political leaders. 
You can take the afternoon and evening to spend some time in the city of Colombo - go to Galle Face, do some shopping, visit the Pettah marketplace, go to a beach in Mount Lavinia etc, before returning back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 02 - Colombo - Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - Vil Uyana, Sigiriya. 

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
A quick yet hearty breakfast at the hotel, and soon you will be on your way to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. 
The Elephant Orphanage is a major tourist attraction where you will see herds of abandoned elephants taken care of with tender love and protection. Among the elephants is one that lost a foot when it stepped on a Land Mine. Another is blind and totally reliant on humans. The elephant herd in Pinnawela makes the journey to the river twice a day to bathe under the eyes of the tourists. The sound of cameras clicking increases every time one of the young elephant babies splashes about in the water. 
After spending some memorable time with the elephants, you will proceed to Sigiriya, where you will spend the next 2 nights at Vil Uyana; a luxury boutique created with the theme of a typical Lankan Village in mind. 
The journey from the main road to the hotel is guaranteed to be memorable where an exclusive bullock cart will take you along the beaten track with Sri Lankan hospitality in the form of ‘Thambili’ (king coconut) & cold towels. You check in for a scrumptious lunch at Vil Uyana and enjoy the tranquillity of this boutique hotel till dinner and bedtime.


Day 03 - Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Exclusive Wine Cellar Dinner. 

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
After breakfast we climb, the mind blowing Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka's biggest attractions. Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a spectacular rock fortress built by King Kashyapa. Be entranced by the Water Gardens, the Sigiri Frescoes, the Mirror Wall of ancient grafitti, the Lion platform and the main Summit on top of the rock. 
After visiting Sigiriya, you will return back to the hotel for lunch. After a little post-lunch break you will be back on the road en route to Polonnaruwa, the second medieval capital of Sri Lanka. Built during the 11th and 12th Centuries AD, it is one of the best preserved cities in Sri Lanka. interesting sites to visit are the Royal Palace, the spectacular Gal Viharaya complex where wonderful statues of Lord Buddha in different postures can be seen. Many of the existing ruins owe their construction to Parakramabahu the Great, the last in a sequence of warrior-kings, who developed the city on a lavish scale. He is also credited with the massive artificial lake that lies to the west of the city, The Sea of Parakrama.
When you return back to the hotel you will find an exclusive dinner in the hotel's wine cellar waiting for you. You will be treated to your first bottle of the finest wine with compliments from Ceylon Roots.


Day 04 - Sigiriya - Dambulla Rock Temple - Aluvihare Cave Temples - Kandy

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
After breakfast, you will leave for the town of Kandy, while visiting the Dambulla rock temples, Aluvihare Cave Temples and the Matale Spice Garden. 
Dambulla rock temples consists of five cave temples constructed in the 1st Century BC. Today the temple is a World Heritage Site which contains many statues and paintings dating back to the 12th century and some of the latest ones of the 18th Century.
Thereafter, we proceed to Kandy while visiting the Matale Spice Garden on the way. The Spice Garden has an assortment of luscious gardens containing Cinnamon, Cardamoms, Pepper plants and many more spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for. See how these spices are grown and processed and learn the different spices and its significance to the local cuisine. You can also purchase your requirements of spices. 
Aluvihare is renowned as the place where the teachings of the Buddha, the Tripitaka were first transcribed on to manuscript in the 2nd Century BC. Aluvihare is a rock monastery located in a picturesque valley 3km north of Matale, so it is conveniently located for those traversing the Cultural Triangle. It is easily recognized from the road as it has a boundary wall with a frieze of elephant heads. This sacred place is remarkable for the huge rocks that are an integral part of it, which is why it is classified as a rock temple.
Thereafter, we proceed to Kandy and check in at the Kandy House Hotel, a small boutique hotel located in a very scenic setting with a bird's eye view of the hill capital. Kandy is well renowned for the Temple of the Tooth and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Home to the sacred relic of the tooth of the Buddha, a visit to the Dalada Maligawa or Temple of the Tooth, is an experience no tourist should miss. Legend says the tooth relic which is of great spiritual significance, had been snatched from the Buddha's funeral pyre and smuggled to Sri Lanka Hidden in the hair of a princess. 
Afterwards, you will return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 05 - Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya - Ceylon Tea Trails Luxury Bungalow

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to visit the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens. Widely regarded to be one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in South Asia; every variety of tropical and temperate tree and flower is cultivated here. Special features are the Orchid House, the fernery, spice garden, and the trees planted by distinguished visitors to the Island.
Once you have taken in the beauty of the gardens, you will leave Kandy en route to Ceylon Tea Trails luxury bungalow in Bogawantalawa valley in central Sri Lanka. This area is known as the Golden Valley of Tea and home to old Ceylon, replete with rolling green hills, plantation bungalows, high tea and exquisite service.
Here in solitude, at an elevation of 4000 feet above sea level, lies Ceylon Tea Trails, four colonial era tea planter's bungalows , infused with a new and decidedly gourmet vibe. Each villa, built between 1890 and 1939, offers a taste of gracious living thanks to butler service & authentic period furnishings, accompanied by gourmet meals.
You will spend the afternoon in the bungalow or the surrounding areas at your leisure, taking in the magnificent climate and indulging in the serenity. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Tea Trails bungalow.



Day 06 - Nuwara Eliya - Horse Riding

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
You will leave Tea Trails after breakfast to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's premier hill resort with a brilliantly refreshing mountain climate. Nuwara Eliya is also the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country, producing some of the world's best tea. Mountain slopes and valleys are carpeted with lush green tea plantations, combined with gushing streams and tumbling waterfalls making it a mountain paradise. An 18-hole golf course and a race course add to the scenic beauty.
You will spend your day in Nuwara Eliya visiting places of interest, horseback riding and taking a walk in the picturesque city. Thereafter, you will return back to Tea Trails for dinner and a good night's sleep.

Day 07 - Nuwara Eliya - Kitulgala - Colombo

Travel Time: Approx 3.5 hours
After an early breakfast at the hotel you will proceed to Colombo, via visiting Kitulgala on the way. 
Previously known for being the location for the film 'Bridge On The River Kwai', Kitulgala is fast gaining popularity for the thrilling white water rafting. White water rafting on the Kelani river from Kitulgala is one of the most exciting and accessible activities Sri Lanka has to offer. The area and the scenery around Kitulgala is stunning, tucked away in the midst of ravines in the picturesque hill country. 
We will stop at the Mlesna Tea Centre briefly for some high tea. This is another unique location and ideal photo stop where St. Clare and Devon waterfalls are located. A special deluxe lunch will also be organized en route. 
Once you reach Colombo, you will check in to the Oceanic Spa Suite in the Regency Wing at the Galle Face Hotel. You will be taken around Colombo once again on a brief city tour to get a glimpse of the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
Your last dinner and night on the Ceylon luxury trail will be spent at the grand Galle Face Hotel.

Day 08 - Colombo - Departure

Travel Time: Approx 3 hours
Breakfast and checkout from the hotel on time before you leave to the airport in time for departure, soaking up the memories and experiences of the last 8 days in our paradise island. Your memorable journey with Ceylon Roots comes to an end. (Of course, you are welcome to extend your stay, to maybe visit the beaches in Sri Lanka or any other program you may enjoy. Just let us know in advance.)
We bid you farewell at the airport and wish you a safe flight back home, hoping you would come back again and visit the parts of Sri Lanka that you haven't experienced yet.

• All Colombo Hotels rates are quoted on the current minimum rates and in case if there is an increase of rates, cause it is regulated by the Government, we will update closer to date to all concerned

• The above mentioned hotels will only be confirmed on availability at the time of bookings. If otherwise suitable alternatives will be suggested prior to confirmation. 
• The consumption of alcohol during “Poya Days” at bars, clubs and other public areas of the hotel and operation of similar forms of entertainment establishments is prohibited by law in Sri Lanka. It is recommended that clients contact the Reception to obtain their respective formalities during their holiday. 
• Kindly note that check in time to all hotels will be at 1400 hrs and check out is at 1200.
• Management will not be responsible for any belongings that are lost or stolen or damaged during the tour.

Cancellation Policy

• Cancellations within 01 to 06 days of the arrival date – 100% of the value of the booking
• Cancellations within 7 to 13 days of the arrival date – 50% of the value of the booking
• Cancellations within 14 to 28 days of the arrival date – 25% of the value of the booking
• Cancellations beyond 28 days of the arrival date – to be decided by the hotel on case-by-case basis
